Mungkin potongan lirik tadi sudah familiar bagi sevenfoldism di penjuru
dunia. Ya, lirik dari lagu M.I.A tersebut seperti puisi yang memiliki
keindahan makna tersirat. Dan seperti itulah lagu-lagu yang digarap oleh
band a7x. Bukan hanya keindahan dalam makna lirik lagu-lagunya, tapi
juga dalam penggarapannya. Bagaimana tidak, suara serak M. Shadows yang
khas dipadukan skil menawan Synyster Gates dan Zacky Vengeance
dengan arpeggio dan shred serta ritmik yang khas membawa sensasi yang
berbeda pada lagu-lagu mereka. Belum lagi dibumbui oleh bass Johny
Christ dan derap drum The Rev.
M. Shadows mempunyai karakter suara yang kuat. Serak, namun teratur.
Jenis seraknya mantab dan sangat berbeda dengan vokalis metal ataupun
rock lainnya. Kemudian Synyster Gates, dia mempunyai skil yang
mengagumkan sebagai lead guitarist. Permainan shred dan sentuhan melody
yang sangat mengagumkan menjadi pengaruh yang kuat dalam membentuk ciri
khas music a7x. Dengarkan saja permainan gitarnya pada lagu bat country
yang begitu impresif. A7x beruntung mempuyai gitaris sekelas Syn.
Zacky Vengeance juga tidak kalah impresif dari Syn. Sering kali dia
juga memainkan melodi-melodi pada lagu-lagu a7x yang dipadukan dengan
melodi Syn. Begitu indah mendengarkan kolaborasi permainan mereka
berdua. Johnny Christ juga punya andil besar dalam skenario permainan
a7x. Walaupun tidak terlalu menonjolkan permainannya, tapi Johnnylah
yang membuat lagu-lagu a7x semakin mantab. Tanpanya, lagu menjadi kurang
berbobot. Kemudian ada The Rev, dialah detak jantung a7x. Kontrol tempo
ada padanya. Permainannya yang ‘insane’ dan powerful menjadi faktor
utama dalam keindahan permainan a7x. Ini semua adalah ramuan kesuksesan
mereka dalam menggarap lagu-lagunya sehingga tercipta nuansa musik rock
yang berbobot.
Ciri khas yang dibawa band ini selalu ada bukan hanya pada lagu-lagu
rock metal mereka saja, tapi juga pada lagu-lagu slow rock yang mereka
garap. Sensasi yang didapat ketika mendengarkan lagu almost easy ataupun
afterlife juga akan didapat saat mendengarkan lagu dear god ataupun
seize the day. Mungkin hanya sebatas ini gambaran dari keindahan
lagu-lagu a7x. Keindahan lainnya mungkin tidak dapat diungkapkan, namun
akan sangat terasa ketika mendengarkannya.

The Rev (Alm.)
Karier
Ia memperoleh sepasang stik drum pada usia lima tahun, dan menerima drum sendiri pada usia ke sepuluh. Hanya dalam waktu satu tahun, dia sudah bermain "The Black Page" dengan mahasiswa dalam ansambel perkusi yang dilakukan oleh gurunya.
Di SMA, bergabung Avenged Sevenfold sebagai salah satu anggota pendiri band ini. Sullivan adalah drummer band ska band Suburban Legends. Pada usia delapan belas tahun dia merekam album pertama dengan Avenged Sevenfold berjudul "Sounding the Seventh Trumpet". Kemudian dalam hidupnya ia dipengaruhi oleh drumer Vinnie Paul, Mike Portnoy, dan Terry Bozzio. Dia bahkan memiliki pengaruh "visual", Tommy Lee, di mana ia berkomentar bahwa "Saya tidak menyangka akan memiliki salah satu dari mereka." Kemampuan Sullivan yang disebutnya "'The Double-ride' adalah suatu teknik yang dapat didengar pada lagu" Almost Easy "di mana dia bermain ganda sampai pada tempo cepat antara double bass dan cymbal naik. Perusahaan drum "Drum Workshop" mengesahkan The Rev dan berkata dia bisa punya drum yang ia inginkan, sehingga ia memilih double bass drum, yang ia lebih pilih daripada double bass pedal. The Rev tidak hanya bermain drum, dia adalah vokalis, pencipta lagu, dan pianist untuk Avenged Sevenfold juga. Kematian
Tubuh Sullivan ditemukan di rumahnya pada tanggal 28 Desember 2009 di usia 28. Kematiannya dilaporkan sebagai penyebab alami. Hasil otopsi yang dilakukan pada tanggal 30 Desember 2009, bagaimanapun, tidak meyakinkan. Pada tanggal 9 Juni 2010, penyebab kematian itu terungkap setelah intoksikasi akut polydrug.karena efek gabungan dari oksikodon (OxyContin), oxymorphone (metabolit oksikodon), diazepam (Valium), nordiazepam (metabolit diazepam) dan alkohol. Kardiomegali (pembesaran jantung) dilaporkan sebagai "kondisi yang signifikan" yang mungkin telah memainkan peran dalam kematiannya.
Pada tanggal 5 Januari 2010, sebuah pemakaman pribadi diadakan untuk Sullivan, dan sehari kemudian ia dimakamkan di Huntington Beach, California. Avenged Sevenfold berdedikasi dalam album kelima mereka, Nightmare,untuk Sullivan.

Ceritanya gini, kenakalan Matt sering membuat Kepsek nya sakit jantung. Sampai akhirnya satu kenakalan yg dilakuin Matt benar-benar “ngirim” sang kepsek ke ruang ICU. Matt menghancurkan seluruh properti sekolahnya saat di kelas tujuh. Nggak berapa lama, terdengar kabar kalo sang kepsek tewas, jadilah dia dapet julukan “the kid that killed the principal”
11. Matt dan Avenged Sevenfold membuat lagu-lagu di album “Sounding The Seventh Trumpet” dan “Waking The Fallen” tanpa punya bekal teknik menyanyi apa-apa, makanya habis itu musibah menimpa tenggorokannya. Setelah kecelakaan itu, teknik bernyanyi Matt di album-album selanjutnya berubah total. Tidak terus scream, melainkan lebih melodius.
12. Matt sangat peduli dengan nasib tentara Amerika yang diberangkatkan ke Irak. Buat mereka, cowok kekar ini membuat lagu berjudul Missing In Action (M.I.A)

Sebelum meninggal, The Rev telah menciptakan sebuah lagu yg berjudul "FICTION" dan salah satu lirik yg menjadi pertanda bahwa The Rev akan pergi adalah bagian akhir lagu.
